Russian Alphabet

The Russian alphabet uses the Cyrillic writing system. Cyrillic is said to be a daughter of the Byzantine Greek writing system, and a granddaughter of Middle-Eastern writing systems. This is the reason why some Russian letters are similar to  Greek or Latin letters.
There are 33 letters in the Russian alphabet: ten of them represent vowel sounds; 21 letters represent consonant sounds and two of them are silent symbols. In this lesson you will learn how Russian letters are written and pronounced.
