The Body in Japanese

After today’s Japanese audio lesson you’ll know the parts of the body in Japanese.  Listen to the Japanese audio and follow the pronunciation, and when you’re ready, practice saying the Japanese words aloud. I hope you don’t need to use it, but you’ll also learn how to say "I’m sick" in Japanese – just in case!

How to pronounce the body in Japanese

Let's begin with the different parts of the body:

からだ / しんたい

体 / 身体

When describing physical pain, its useful to know a few expressions that might get you some help when you need it!

いたみ

痛み

Itami

Pain or Ache

わたし は あたまが いたい

私は頭が痛い

Watashi wa atamaga itai

My head hurts

わたし は ずつうが する

私は頭痛がする

Watashi wa zutsūga suru

I have a headache

わたし は せなかが いたい

私は背中が痛い

Watashi wa senakaga itai

I have a backache

わたし は おなかが いたい

私はお腹が痛い

Watashi wa onakaga itai

I have a stomach ache

わたし は びょうきだ

私は病気だ

Watashi wa byōkida

I'm sick
