Booking a hotel in French

Est-ce que vous avez une chambre disponible ?

Do you have a room available?

Two useful words to know at this point are “Une chambre”, a room, and “Disponible”, available. The receptionist may respond…

Oui, nous avons des chambres disponibles.

Yes, we still have rooms available.

No, unfortunately we have no rooms available.

Non, nous sommes complets.

No, we are booked out.

When asking for the price the receptionist at the hotel will need to know for how many people and for how many nights you want the room.

Pour combien de personnes ?

For how many people?

Pour combien de nuits ?

For how many nights?

You might answer:

Pour deux personnes.

For two people

Pour une nuit.

For one night.

The receptionist may also ask whether you want a single or a double room.

Une chambre simple

A single room

Une chambre double

A double room

Your answer may look like this…

A single room for two nights, please

A double room for one night, please.

When asking for the price simply say “Combien coûte …” - "how much is it for…", and add the type of room and number of nights you want. For example:

How much is it for a single room for two nights ?

How much is it for a double room for one night ?

Some hotels charge per room, others per person. Here are some possible answers you might get to hear…

La chambre coûte soixante-dix Euros par nuit.

That costs 70 euros per night.

La chambre coûte quarante-cinq Euros par personne.

That costs 45 euros per person

The double room costs 45 euros per person.

That’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed it.
