Beautiful in French

This free audio lesson will teach you how to say Beautiful in French, which can be useful to express your feelings about a city, a view, a man or a woman!

How to say Beautiful in French

French adjectives often have a masculine and a feminine form. Beau is the masculine, and belle the feminine form of the adjective meaning beautiful.  So, if you are talking about a man or masculine object you use beau, if talking about a woman or a feminine object use belle.

Masculine and feminine are sometimes the same, such as magnifique (very beautiful/wonderful), and sometimes you just have to add an "e" at the end, such as joli/jolie (pretty).

If you want to compliment a man or a woman about his/her looks in French, you can say:

Nous avons une belle vue.

We have a beautiful view.

C'est une vue à couper le souffle.

It's a breathtaking view.

Ce paysage est magnifique.

This landscape is very beautiful.

If you want to talk about the beauty of a landscape, for example, you can use expressions like:

You're handsome. (masculine)

Tu es belle.

You're beautiful. (feminine)

Je te trouve très beau.

I find you very beautiful. (masculine)

Tu es d'une grande beauté.

You're very beautiful.

That’s it for today’s French lesson. I hope you enjoyed it and are now ready to compliment a beloved in French! Why not take it a step further and sing them Happy Birthday in French?
